About Us

Newton Veterinary Hospital has been proudly serving our Sussex County community since 1960. It started when Dr. William Gray built Newton Veterinary Hospital in 1960 and treated farm and companion animals. Prior to that, he had practiced with his father, Dr. John Gray, in the center of Newton. His grandfather, Dr. Whitfield Gray, was also a veterinarian in Sussex County dating back to the turn of the century. The practice was sold to Dr. Don Costlow in July of 1997. Dr. Costlow built the new 11,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art building on the same property in June 2001.

Who We are Now

Not only has our building grown, but so has Sussex County, our staff, and our services! New businesses, restaurants, and attractions continue to move to Sussex County as our population expands rapidly. In order to meet the needs of our growing community, Newton Veterinary Hospital became the first 24-hour a day, 7-day a week emergency veterinary hospital in Sussex County in May 2003! We now have 13-doctors and over 70-staff members to ensure that quality pet care is available around the clock.
