Our Doctors

Dr. Don Costlow received his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1985. He is a 1990 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine. During his studies in veterinary school, he was inducted into the Phi Zeta Organization for academic excellence.  From May 1991 to June 1997, Dr. Costlow was the Chief Veterinarian at an animal emergency and critical care facility outside of Cleveland, Ohio. While in Cleveland, he appeared regularly on FOX Television’s “Good Day Cleveland”, where he presented various topics on pet healthcare.  He is currently a member of Newton Rotary (Past President 2008-2009; member since 1997) and :

He was President of the NWNJVMS in 2004 and an active member of AVMA and AAHA.   Dr. Costlow took over as President of Newton Veterinary Hospital in July of 1997 and founded the Animal Emergency Hospital of NJ in 2002.

Dr. Stan Bladek is a graduate of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine. He has been with Newton Veterinary Hospital since 1983. Dr. Bladek is a member of the AVMA and the Northwest New Jersey Veterinary Society. He has had several case reports published in Veterinary Forum magazine. Dr. Bladek is the chairman of the Sussex County 4-H Foundation and is a long-time resident of Hampton Township.

Dr. Steve Soergel graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a Master of Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1998. After veterinary school, Dr. Soergel completed an internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in Bergen County and then worked at a small animal practice in Morris Plains, NJ. He joined the staff at the Newton Veterinary Hospital in June 2001.

Dr. Kate Colyer graduated Summa Cum Laude from the College of William and Mary with a double concentration in chemistry and biology before obtaining her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006.  She completed an internship in small animal emergency medicine in North Carolina prior to returning to her roots in NJ and joining the team at Newton Veterinary Hospital in July 2007.  Outside of work Dr. Colyer enjoys horseback riding, reading, and hiking with her mixed breed dog, Annie.  She currently lives in Passaic County with Annie and two cats Tyler and Mali.

Dr. O. Steve Brasch, comes to us from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  He graduated Summa Cum Laude as the valedictorian from his undergraduate college, University of Cincinnati.  Dr. Brasch has lived in Sussex County since 2001 and currently lives in Wantage with his wife, Shelley, who is also a practicing veterinarian.  They have five cats (all rescues), two dogs and a horse named Max.  Dr. Brasch is truly a mixed animal veterinarian.  At Newton Veterinary Hospital he sees all companion animals, as well as the occasional goat or alpaca.

Dr. Nani Cha received her BS from Washington State University and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003.  She worked in Queens, NY as an Associate Veterinarian before joining Newton Veterinary Hospital in September 2005.  Her interests include emergency medicine, surgery, and critical care.  Dr. Cha currently splits her time between New York City and Sussex County, accompanied by her dog Leia.  When not working, she enjoys rock climbing, practicing yoga, exploring NYC and scuba diving.


Dr. Terri Schneider joined Newton Veterinary Hospital in November 2007.  She has BS in Biology and graduated Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1995.  She was published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine and has special interests in feline medicine and ophthalmology.  Dr. Schneider has also bred and shown CFA registered himalayan and persian cats.  Dr. Schneider has worked both in emergency and preventative medicine prior to joining Newton Veterinary Hospital.  When not at work, Dr. Schneider enjoys anything outdoors - notably nature walks and hiking with her dogs, fishing and gardening.  When forced to be indoors, she enjoys reading, cooking, music and computers.  Dr. Schneider has two himalayan cats, two cavalier spaniels and one very large hermit crab named Chuck.

Dr. Jennifer Wyman has a BS in Biology and graduated from University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2008 when she joined Newton Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Wyman was born in Sussex County, NJ and has lived her entire life in New Jersey. Dr. Wyman is a member of the AVMA (American Veterinary Medicine Association). She owns a bloodhound mix and an American quarter horse. Dr. Wyman enjoys being outdoors hiking with her dog, Emma and riding her horse, Royal.
